Read the job descriptions below and match the jobs that they correspond to.

State / Action verbs

Some verbs can be used in simple tenses and continuous tenses. These are called action verbs:

Susan normally works in Europe, but this week she’s working in South America.

Some verbs can never be used in continuous tenses. These are called state verbs:

I love tea.
(not I’m loving tea.)

Mixed verbs

Sometimes a verb can have a state or action version, depending on its different meanings. When this happens, we call that a mixed verb

For example, HAVE can mean POSSESS, this is a state verb:

I have a blue car.

HAVE can also mean CONSUME, this is an action verb:

I am having a steak.

Read the pairs of sentences and decide which ones sound correct. Sometimes you will have to choose both.

Complete the pairs of sentences with the same verb, conjugated differently.
