Texte 1
Communication can take many different forms. As humans, we can talk to each other, we can communicate with facial expressions or body-language. The invention of mobile technology means that we have more ways to communicate now than ever before! We can text, send instant messages, email, FaceTime, or communicate through social media! Television, video hosting sites, paintings and photography all communicate ideas and feelings.
Texte 2
Beside humans, other animals have lots of different ways of communicating.
- Squids change the pigmentation of their bodies to make different patterns to communicate their mood or to transmit important information to their friends.
- Bats talk to each other using high-pitched squeaks that humans can’t hear.
- Prairie dogs have developed a language that sounds like a dog’s bark. They have specific sounds for each type of predator that they see, so that their family know’s what to look out for.
But this is nothing compared to humans. We have developed over 31,000 languages in our history, and we’re able to communicate through stories, poetry, paintings and theatre. We can also lie, manipulate and spread gossip too!
Texte 3
The human race has invented various communication technologies over the years.
- 30,000 BCE – Symbols were developed, and the first cave painting appeared.
- The ancient Greeks used the spoken word for theatre and drama. They also developed public speaking and philosophy.
- The Romans used communication to create a new system of government, and depended on the Roman alphabet.
- In the 14th century, the printing press radically changed European countries, and created a new way of thinking.
Texte 4
In the 20th century, radio, television, and photography drastically changed the way we communicated. Now with the advent of high-speed internet around the world, we have never been so close. You can pick up your phone, and instantly be face-to-face with somebody the other side of the planet. But is this fast-paced communication strictly positive? Modern social media is so quick to share news and events, that it’s hard to know what is real, and what is fake. This seems to be the communication challenge of our time.
